Didyma, the Temple of Apollo is the largest temple in the world according to the ancient geographer Strabo. The temple dates back to the eighth century BC. It is considered a satellite sanctuary of Miletus rather than a city.
The architects of the temple were Paionios of Ephesus and Daphnis of Miletus. After its destruction by the Persians in 494 BC, Alexander the Great rebuilt the temple and sought the guidance of Apollo, god of the sun, through his priests and oracle.
